About Unior

Producing over 7.6 million pieces of tools and sheet-metal goods per year, Unior’s history goes back to 1919 when it was founded as the Styria Iron-Industrial Company in Zreče, Slovenia where the headquarters remains to this day. SIIC produced forged tools for the agriculture, mining, and craft industries. Zreče, in the north-east of Slovenia, has a long history of metalworking and blacksmithing and the Styria Iron-Industrial Company was one of several forging operations in the region.

After the Second World War the forge renovated and upon completion of the project in 1947 the company was renamed to Factory of Forged Tools Zreče, admittedly not the most creative name but very descriptive of what it was the company actually did. At this time the company also began focusing its research and development efforts into general hand tools, or so-called universal tools. This change in focus is what led to another renaming of the company in 1974 to Unior, the Factory of Forged Tools Zreče.

Unior is actually a portmanteau of the Slovenian words for “universal tools”, or UNIverzalna ORodja.

Having become quite adept at turning raw steel into fine quality tools, the company’s efforts in the 21st century focused on refining things even further to meet and surpass various international quality standards and much effort was put into ensuring the production process was as environmentally friendly as possible.

Today the company is comprised of four divisions: Forging, Hand Tools, Special Machines, and Tourism.

Unior Forge

Forging

Outside of the raw forgings required for Unior’s hand tools, Unior also is contracted by several world-renowned companies to supply forged parts for their products. Automakers from Volkswagen to Ferrari rely on Unior’s expertise in forging and machining to produce items such as connecting rods, ball joints, and other various parts for their automobiles. Unior’s current production of connecting rods totals over 16,000,000 per year.

The forging division also contains Unior’s sintering division, where high quality, high-precision parts can be made quickly and cost-effectively when the strength of a forged part isn’t necessary. Items such as impellers, sprockets, pulleys, and so on can be made via sintering.

Unior Hand Tools

Hand Tools

Unior’s hand tool line is made up of over 6000 items and includes everything from small 6mm combination wrenches to our tool cabinets. Aside from general (universal) tools such as ratchets and screwdrivers, Unior also produces specific tools for automotive, motorcycle, bicycle, electrical, and various other segments.

Unior Special Machines

Special Machines

It takes a lot of specialized equipment to make as many various products as Unior does and to that end, they even produce their own machinery, as well as machinery for other industries. As a high-volume automotive parts supplier Unior is intimately familiar with the special requirements needed to process certain parts, and to that end has designed and manufactures special machining centers designed to quickly and precisely process items such as crankshafts, camshafts, and more.

Unior Tourism

Tourism

Slovenia is a beautiful country if you weren’t aware. A small arm of Unior, the tourism division owns and operates three resorts in Slovenia offering cycling trails, skiing, spas, and other activities.
