The threaded-adapter wear part for your Pedal Genie

The Pedal Genie 2650BI is the Unior install-aid tool that mounts onto a crank arm in place of a pedal, letting a mechanic spin the cranks while adjusting derailleurs on a new build or working on a bike that does not yet have pedals fitted. The 2650.1/1 is the threaded aluminum adapter that screws into the crank's pedal bore on one end of the Genie; it is the working-contact part of the tool and the one that wears.

How the Pedal Genie uses this head

The Pedal Genie ships with two interchangeable adapters that mount on the same body. The aluminum 2650.1/1 is the threaded one, sized to the standard 9/16 inch by 20 TPI pedal-thread spec; it screws securely into the crank bore the same way a pedal would. The second adapter is a plastic conical friction-fit; it presses into the bore without engaging the threads, which is faster but less secure under the load of crank rotation.

Mechanics reach for the threaded adapter on longer jobs: drive-side mounting for a new-build assembly, repeated derailleur-trim cycles, anything where the Genie needs to stay seated through full revolutions. The conical adapter is for quick alignment checks. Replacing the threaded head when it wears keeps the secure-mount workflow in service across the life of the parent tool.

When to replace

Three signs the 2650.1/1 is at the end of its useful window:

  • Slack or wobble when the adapter is threaded into a known-good crank-arm bore. A fresh head seats firmly with no play; a worn one rocks in the bore under the load of crank rotation.
  • Visible aluminum wear on the engagement profile. The head wears from friction and thermal cycling in the crank bore over thousands of mount-and-spin cycles, not from a cutting action.
  • Stripped or lost. A pedal-thread overload or a Genie that has gone missing from a service van means the head needs a replacement before the next new-build job.

Compatibility

Fits the Unior Pedal Genie 2650BI parent tool only. Threaded to 9/16 inch x 20 TPI, the universal pedal thread the Genie engages on the crank arm of any modern bike.

Built in Zreče, Slovenia

Unior has been forging hand tools in Zreče since 1919, and is the official technical partner of multiple World Tour and downhill teams. The 2650.1/1 is sold as a separate spare because the Pedal Genie body is built to outlast many head-changes; only the working-contact adapter sees the cycle of friction and thermal load that calls for periodic replacement. Selling the wear part on its own is the difference between an install-aid that gets re-bought and one that stays in the toolbox through several head replacements.

Pro tip from our mechanics

The Pedal Genie earns its keep on new-build assembly day: cranks installed, chain on, derailleurs to be set, but no pedals fitted yet. Thread the 2650.1/1 into the crank, spin the cranks under load, and run the derailleur-trim cycles without waiting on the pedal install. Our pedal-install guide covers the pedal-fitting procedure that follows the build sequence, including the thread-prep step we run before every pedal install: How to install and remove bike pedals →
