Bleed kits for SRAM brakes, DOT 5.1 and mineral oil

Most SRAM brakes, including Code, Level, Guide, G2, Force AXS and Red AXS, take DOT 5.1 fluid. Maven and DB8 take mineral oil, so confirm the fluid before you choose a kit. Basic Edge is the home kit for DOT brakes with the Bleeding Edge caliper port. Premium Edge adds the 4.0 mm and 5.0 mm bleed blocks, and Maven needs the 5.0 mm one. Is the SRAM Maven bleed kit different from a Code kit?

Yes. Maven uses a 5.0 mm bleed block versus Code's 4.0 mm, and Maven runs SRAM Maxima mineral oil rather than DOT 5.1. A standard SRAM DOT kit will not give the correct block thickness or fluid for Maven, so order a Maven-specific kit for that brake.

What is the Bleeding Edge fitting and which brakes use it?

Bleeding Edge is SRAM's sealed caliper port that lets you bleed without spilling fluid. The concept is used across Maven, Code, Avid Elixir, Juicy, and older Formula calipers, but the fitting size is not universal — Maven uses a unique 5.0 mm block that does not interchange with the 4.0 mm DOT models.

Can I top up SRAM DOT brakes with mineral oil?

No. Classic SRAM brakes require DOT 5.1; mineral oil will damage the seals and must never be mixed with DOT. Buy DOT 5.1 separately if you only need fluid, and keep DOT tools fully separate from any mineral-oil kit used on Shimano or Maven brakes.
