A mechanic's day is mostly standing. Some of it is standing while bent over a stand, some of it is standing while reaching across a workbench, but it's mostly the slow accumulation of hours on a hard floor. The sock is the layer between that floor and the rest of you. A good sock is not the thing you notice; a bad sock is the thing you remember by 3pm.

We built these as a seamless technical sport sock in a cotton-elastane blend. The cotton handles breathability and the dry feel against skin; the elastane gives the sock the elasticity to hold position around the calf without sliding down through the day. Seamless construction is the spec detail that matters most for long bench shifts; the seam at the toe of a cheap sock is what creates the hot spot under your big toenail after six hours on your feet. Take the seam out and the hot spot goes with it.

The “technical sport” framing is honest: these are equally at home in a ride shoe as on a workshop floor. Cotton-elastane is the same blend a lot of casual riding socks use because it works for both contexts; the breathability that helps in a shoe also helps standing on a slab floor.

Built by a tool company

Unior has been forging hand tools in Zreče, Slovenia, since 1919, and is the official technical partner of multiple World Tour and downhill teams. The Made For Work line tends to get talked about in the hoodies and the hats; the sock is the one that matters most quietly. The seamless-toe detail is the construction call a person who's spent six hours standing on a hard floor would make.

Pro tip from our mechanics

Standing on a hard shop floor all day is the kind of cumulative fatigue that builds slowly. A good sock is one of the cheapest interventions; the seamless-toe spec is the part that pays back.
